Four different Doctor Who Podcasts from award winning comedian Toby Hadoke, whose Edinburgh show Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf became a West End hit, toured the world, and became a Sony nominated BBC Radio series. The podcasts are: ”Season One” : Happy Times and Places - episode commentaries (a video version is also available on You Tube). Released twice weekly. ”Season 2” : Too Much Information - an episode-by-episode examination of the making of the series. Released once a month. ”Season 3” : Indefinable Magic - whimsical essays inspired by the show. Released at least once a month. There's going to be a bonus release in the middle of this week so here's an omnibus to keep you going until then.
Since partaking in the podcast - and, I'm sure, entirely as a result of doing so - our special guest Laurence Clark has written a comedy pilot that was aired on Dave recently and is now awaiting the green light for a series. Fingers crossed he gets one. It was called Perfect and featured Juliet Cowan from The Sarah Jane Adventures amongst others.
Anyway, as ever the brief with this podcast is to try enjoying even one of Doctor Who's less celebrated stories. And, in this case, one that was actually visited by our guest who, it's fair to say, has gone on to greater things.

Who could wish for a more charming advocate for this under-celebrated slice of 80s Who? And it is very 80s. What a peculiar thing this story is, but this episode contains much enjoyable laser gun action and one of THE GREATEST EVER LINES IN DOCTOR WHO AND WE DON'T KNOW WHY. James Goss has to choose his favourite thing about this episode and the story as a whole, which he will do with his trademark insight and wit. Host Toby Hadoke has neither of those things, so Lord knows what he'll be choosing.

Toby Hadoke can trace the moment he went from being a normal human being who liked Doctor Who, (you know, watching it on TV, reading the stories, enjoying it) to becoming a fan (you know, finding out about behind-the-scenes facts, learning the history, being unnecessarily angry with it). It was when he received a certain book, a gateway to unimaginable riches. The book was Peter Haining's Doctor Who - A Celebration, and it led him on a journey of discovery, of joy ... and eventually ... of disappointment. Will I ever learn to recapture that innocent love again? Have a listen and find out.

And so Doctor Who's fourth adventure kicks off with the first episode that we cannot actually see. But there's plenty to examine in terms of the large amount of filming done for this episode, the last minute changes to the script which give the story a unique flavour, and two of its actors who span from the top to the bottom of the guest guest list and who both had very different careers that coincided here, in Lime Grove Studio D, back in January 1964.
