Happy Times and Places 68.4 - Meglos 4
Friday Nov 03, 2023
Friday Nov 03, 2023
Well, this is the end of Happy Times and Places Dodechahedroning on about events of Tigella, (which by the way keeps autocorrecting to Nigella which would be a very different prospect). It's one of the shortest episodes of Doctor Who ever, but host Toby Hadoke still ends up saying enough to nearly fill the hour, but partially that's because he hugely misremembers another BBC series and then has to come back and explain himself. I think you'll find he does that every now and again. Will Frazer Gregory and he agree, or are they destined to forever argue, one of us in a blond wig, the other in a pink hat, while Edward Underdown (which autocorrects to Underdone - which is appropriate) rather tiredly tries to arbitrate?

Happy Times and Places 69.1 - 42
Monday Nov 06, 2023

Big Finish writer Kat Armitage is a wonderful contributor and is terrifically enthusiastic about the first Doctor Who script of a certain Chris Chibnall (whatever happened to him?). Hos Toby Hadoke needs to do more New Series commentaries but he always worries that he will have less to say.
This is nearly two hours long.
He doesn't have less to say.
Whether that's a good thing or not, well, that's up to you to decide ...

Happt Times and Places OMNIBUS - The Dominators
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
As usual for these omnibuses there is a brand new intro and exit - in between though, it's the five Happy Times and Places episodes covering The Dominators, with special guest, Full Circle writer Andrew Smith, all presented in a UK Gold style omnibus. Brian Cant, Troughton Can and Felicity Gibson has a Kando attitude as the Dominators bicker, the council ... umm... bicker and the Quarks snicker (whilst the production team and writers also bicker). In the end though, it really erupts. Quarks: Enjoy!

Happy Times and Places BONUS - 60th Anniversary Special Part Two
Friday Nov 24, 2023
Friday Nov 24, 2023
You're certainly not going to be short of An Unearthly Child flavoured content this year. What started off as a little podcast in a junkyard (Toby's office) has ended up as an adventure in podcast-space that has lasted far longer than anyone imagined (it's going to be a mnulit parter with a huge number of contributors). This is only part two - the commentary is done, but Toby has plenty of guests who will give their opinions, thoughts, and recommendations about this oft-analysed 25 minutes of television. And as you would expect, there are plenty of fresh and original perspectives to be had: especially as our guests come from the cream of the crop of Doctor Who appreciators, commentators and creatives.
Happy Anniversary everyone!

Happy Times and Places BONUS - 60th Anniversary Special Part Three
Monday Nov 27, 2023
Monday Nov 27, 2023
More Who-Celeb birthday wishes, and the continued post-commentary analysis with a brand new set of special guests, all of whom have contributed to the Doctor Who universe but who have also excelled outside of it. Toby Hadoke is on hand to embellish and muse upon their observations in the third (but not final) part of this epic consideration of the virtues of Doctor Who's very first episode.

Happy Times and Places BONUS - 60th Anniversary Special Part Four
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
This was meant to be an hour-long chunk but... well, let's just say it went on a bit (surprise). We have some more birthday greetings plus five special guests each giving their five favourite things about An Unearthly Child - two extended universe writers, a classic series composer and two new series writers all counteract the stuttering nonsense of host Toby Hadoke by provding thoughtful and insightful analysis. As Kenneth Williams kid would say ... "Ooooh!".

Happy Times and Places BONUS - 60 Anniversary Special Part Five
Friday Dec 01, 2023
Friday Dec 01, 2023
Just before the 60th celebrations wear off, it is time for a trio of actors from Doctor Who to tell us what they love about An Unearthly Chld, before we conclude with a very special guest. What started off as a quick look at the episode before a cheerful coda of positivity has become a five hour EPIC. Still, such a special episode deserves that kind of treatemnt - even if only by mistakle. But as we know, Doctor Who was no stranger to mistakes, even at its birth. Happy Anniversary everyone.
Pleaae note - listen to the first episode of these specials for the commentary - and Toby Hadoke's choices - before you listen to this one.
